The #Woman in #Marriage - The #Praying Woman #Married Women

Welcome to the continuation of The Woman in Marriage.

Series two is titled - The Praying Woman

Last week, I mentioned that I was invited to speak to a group of married women during their Mother's Day Symposium. To read the first post on The Forgiving Woman, click here.

Based on their responses, I decided to share the presentation in a seven-series post.

Today, I'm going to discuss The Praying Woman.

2. The Praying Woman – Hannah was a praying woman - 1 Sam 1-2

The woman in marriage knows she must pray in season and out of season. She understands that she must draw near to God at all times. In addition, she trusts in the Lord with all her heart concerning; her husband, children, work, extended family and life in general. She does not lean on her own understanding, and in all her ways, she acknowledges the Lord and God directs her path. Prov 3:5.

Hannah was married to Elkanah the Ephramite. Her husband had two wives. Peninah had many children and Hannah was barren. The Lord had closed up her womb.

Every year, Elkanah and his family went up to Shiloh to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of Hosts. During the offering, her husband gave Peninah several portions for her daughters and sons. To Hannah, he gave a double portion because he loved her.

For years, Peninah provoked Hannah severely to make her miserable.

(Remember: the seeds planted in the garden that endured adverse conditions?) - read last week's post.

One year, as Eli, the Priest sat by the door of the Tabernacle, Hannah wept in bitterness of soul. She poured out her heart to God, so much so, Eli thought she was drunk with wine.

(i) There would be times in your marriage that you would seek the Lord’s face, and you would weep. But you must understand and know that crying may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning.

Know that no condition is permanent.

In her prayer of petition, Hannah made a vow to God; “O Lord of Hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your maidservant and remember me and not forget your maidservant, but will give your maidservant a male child, then, I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life and no razor shall come upon his head.” And Eli blessed her petition.

(ii) There are times, when the woman in marriage makes a vow to the Lord. A vow she intends to keep.

The Lord remembered Hannah and she conceived and bore a son, his name was Samuel (Prophet Samuel who judged Israel).

(iii) The woman in marriage must be willing to endure hurt and misery because she knows the Lord will remember her for good. She knows she is loved by God and understands that these trials builds her patience and maturity.

In fulfilment of her vows, Hannah gave up Samuel and rejoiced about it and the Lord blessed her greatly with five more children. You can read Hannah’s prayer of praise and thanksgiving in 1 Sam 2: 1.

(iv) The woman in marriage is glad to make sacrifices to the Lord, knowing HE will bless her richly.

(v) She brings up her children to fear the Lord. She teaches them and instructs them in God’s commandments.

(vi) The woman in marriage places her trust in her God. Hannah trusted God.

Woe is he who puts his trust in man. Do not put your confidence in a companion. Micah 7:5.

Oh woman, when you put your TRUST in your husband, you erroneously equate him with God. When your ‘trusted’ husband commits adultery, bears a son outside your marriage or deceives you, all hell breaks loose. Your world falls apart. Why? Because you forgot your husband was HUMAN.

God is the only one you MUST TRUST. Why? Because HE does what he says HE will do, HE does not LIE, he does not leave nor forsake you. HE is with you when you go through problems, you just don't know it. Believe me, HE sees your pain.

God is Dependable, Reliable, Unshakeable, Unchangeable, Unfailing, always there to lift you up, because HE is your Helper, your Deliverer, your Strong Tower, Your Refuge and Fortress, your Shield and Buckler.

(vii) Dear Woman, trust God to keep your husband faithful and wise, to keep your children on the narrow path and to make your home a place of refuge for others who hurt because you have been through it.

The series continues next week with the Virtuous Woman. Thank you for visiting.
