Is Vanessa the Woman to Bring Fred down? BEYOND the LADY #Contemporary #Romance

Fred switched off the entire wall lights. He strained his ear to listen for any strange
sound…but there was none. There was only an eerie silence…

The clutter on the white dining table and chairs were a sorry sight to behold. Picking up the paper litter, he saw it bore the logo of a popular restaurant.

The striped, roller blind was still hanging sky high. He calmly wound down the blind. At least, she didn’t leave the windows and doors open. She has minimal sense of security, if nothing else.

Just to assuage his curiosity, he peeped into the kitchen. Every glass storage jar, cookware and utensil stayed neatly intact, just the way he’d left them.
Meaning? She’d entertained herself and who else?

She obviously hadn’t lifted her lazy, pampered hands to cook for herself. By now, his initial fear had totally seeped out of his spine.

He marched to each of the three bedrooms he’d shown her before he’d left for his business dinner. Only because she hadn’t stated exactly which one of the three she preferred.

She wasn’t in any of the three bedrooms.

At that minute, Fred shifted into panic gear. Did she make good her threat to desert his home? Is she really bent on living her life on the streets? No, not quite on the streets! But in the deluxe hotels around the UK, paid for by her revolting customers.

Where's he going to start looking for the reckless woman? Could she have gone back…?

Large balls of sweat broke out from every pore in his skin…his heart beat erratically. If she disappears into thin air, he would hold himself accountable…

Quickly deciding to go in search of her in the hotel the wealthy, old Charles had paid for, he walked into his bedroom.

And, he stopped short!

Fred lost his natural ability to supply his lungs with oxygen. And yes, he shut his eyes from the bewitching sight of the spread-eagled babe on his duvet cover.

Her hair highlights has changed from black to gold… Vanessa was covered in only tomato red, lace panties and bra.

Fortunately, she's lying face down and fast asleep. Or so he thought…

Her exposed spinal base is deliciously tattooed… His heavy feet moved to sneak a look at her tattoo.

He felt like a peeping Tom. But he's in his own bedroom!

Interestingly, her tattoos are a bow and an arrow. Why fighting images? This woman is an enigma.

Just for the records, he's struggling to ignore her backside, which looks firm and round and seriously inviting...

Vanessa's wanton, nutty and naughtily untamed. No…she's a prostitute!
He must always remember that petite fact. He isn’t keen on sharing his private space with a woman with an established high sexual notoriety.

Swinging into action, he flung open his walk-in-closet, and his bedside chest. Sighing with relief, he filled his arms with the clothes and underwear he needs for the next couple of days.

He didn’t welcome her intrusion into his bedroom but kicking her out isn’t feasible. Before today, he hardly ever allowed his girlfriend access to his room. That
rule didn't apply to this woman he picked up from a hotel who didn't even have the curtsey to ask for his permission before climbing into his bed.

As he took one long, last, look at her spread-eagled form, his bathroom door opened…

And a man about her height, fair skinned but obviously black with dark eyes strolled out of his en-suite bathroom in only boxers! His dark hair was long and wet from taking a shower...

AUTHOR INTERVIEW with WODKE HAWKINSON

MULTIPLE GENRE AUTHORS: WODKE HAWKINSON

Author name: Wodke Hawkinson is the name under which Karen Wodke and PJ

Hawkinson produce their collaborated works.
About your family/background, your location:

I’m located in Kansas.

How and why did you decide to get published?

Love to write, don’t love to wait months or even years for traditional publishing. Decided to self publish so we could get our work out there. Also, there is great freedom in being at the helm of your own ship.

What genre do you write? And why?

Multiple genres. We just can’t stick to one thing. Probably a short attention span is to blame.

What other genre interest you?

Almost all genres, with a special affinity for science fiction, suspense, and anything different or a bit skewed. Not a fan of formulaic predictable tales.

What is the story behind your book?

Catch Her in the Rye is a collection of short stories. We wanted to

produce something at an affordable price to introduce readers to our work in advance of releasing our novels.

How do you decide your book cover?

For our short story collections, the cover is based on the final story in the book. For Catch Her in the Rye, we wanted to find a picture of a lovely woman in a field, one that had just the right look. When we found the photo we ultimately used, we knew right away it was the one. This photograph, while not a rye field, does come closest to the story. A woman, a white shawl, a field. We had to use it.

Do you think readers decide based on book cover or book title?

Both. A cover draws readers in but the stories inside are really what matters.

If you write fiction; What’s the source of your inspiration? How much of YOU show up in your writing?

Inspiration can come from anywhere or anything. A person you pass on the street, a real life experience, or even a dream. There is something of the author in each story, but it might not always be readily apparent.

Use one word/phrase to describe your book:

Entertaining.

How have you found the writing process?

Wonderful, frustrating, rewarding, enjoyable, and maddening.

Have you ever experienced writer’s block? How did you tackle it?

Probably most writers experience dry spells. The fastest way to break a block is just to write, even if you are not producing your best material. You can always (and must always) go back and revise.

Do you have a blog? What do you write about? Karen: Yes, our blog, http://wodke-hawkinson.com/blog1/, is a mixed bag. One of our blog categories is “Fake Phony News”, which reveals a lot. Some of our blogging is serious, some silly. But one thing is for sure, we don’t blog as much as we should.

What books are on your shelf at home?

Too numerous to mention as I am addicted to reading. Here are a few: Tolkien, King, Koontz, a variety of self-published works (which we love), sci-fi, and suspense novels.

Any awards/achievement you want to share?

We would share all of them… if we had any.

Who’s your favourite author?

Tolkien.

What are you good at as an individual?

Hopefully writing. Also I have a particular skill for collecting things no one else wants. I’m really quite good at it.

What form of entertainment do you enjoy most and why?

Reading, because it is an inexpensive vacation to places I could never afford to go and to realms no one can visit in reality.

What are your other interests?

Fishing, gardening and learning about other self-sustaining pursuits, home refurbishment.

Your favourite pet?

Cat.

What’s your choice meal/favourite restaurant?

Choice meal is steak, baked potato, and veggies. Favorite restaurant is any place that serves a good steak.

What’s your music choice?

Varied, but I really like to explore independent music created by self-produced artists.

Name your favourite city in the world:

Las Vegas.

Name your favourite world leader and why:

I’m not too crazy about any politicians at the moment, actually.

If you had one wish, what would it be?

To have as many wishes as I want.

If you can change one thing, what would it be?

I would like to control time, go backward and forward at will.

What would you say you’re bad at?

There is not room on this form to adequately address this question.

You’re squeamish to what?

Certain bugs.

What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve done?

I’d be embarrassed to tell you!

Anything else your readers don’t know about you?

They probably don’t know I am addicted to Cappuccino, so addicted I wrote a song by that title.

What’s your favourite quote?

“Determine your own destiny’’.

Why should a reader buy your book?

Catch Her in the Rye gives a reader a variety of tales, some heart-warming, some a bit disturbing, but all compelling in one way or another.

What is your last word?

You mean I only get one last word?

Where can your book be found/bought/website:

http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/70099

http://www.amazon.com/

Thank you so much for taking time out to answer these questions.

Thank you, Wodke Hawkinson

Author name: Wodke Hawkinson is the name under which Karen Wodke and PJ Hawkinson produce their collaborated works.

About your family/background, your location:

I’m located in Kansas.

How and why did you decide to get published?

I decided I could write a different type of vampire book after enjoying the True Blood and Twilight series. After writing Half Bitten, I joined forces with Karen. We began writing Tangerine, and then we Betrayed, which will be the first novel we’ll release. During this time, we produced quite a few short stories and have released two short story volumes to date; Catch Her in the Rye and Blue.

What genre do you write? And why?

Multiple genres. We just can’t stick to one thing. Probably a short attention span is to blame.

What other genre interest you?

I also enjoy most genres but have a special affinity to mysteries, adult fairytales, and, yes, anything different and a bit skewed.

What is the story behind your book?

Catch Her in the Rye gives readers a variety of genres to choose from, allowing all readers to, hopefully, find the stories enjoyable.

How do you decide your book cover?

I agree with Karen’s reasons and would like to add that she found the picture of the old house we used for the cover of our 2nd short story volume and it generated the story Blue.

Do you think readers decide based on book cover or book title?

I myself am drawn mainly to the cover but admit the title follows closely.

If you write fiction; What’s the source of your inspiration? How much of YOU show up in your writing?

I agree to an extent; although, I don’t completely agree that there is something of the author in each story. As we go through life, we observe many characters and are able to put ourselves in their shoes, thus using something of them instead of ourselves.

Use one word/phrase to describe your book:

Rollercoaster.

How have you found the writing process?

Wonderful, frustrating, rewarding, enjoyable, and maddening.

Have you ever experienced writer’s block? How did you tackle it?

Fortunately, I have not experienced the dire consequences of the sneaky, evil, and soul-sucking writer’s block. But, if I do someday face the villain, I hope Karen’s theory is right.

Do you have a blog? What do you write about?

Yes, our blog, http://wodke-hawkinson.com/blog1/, is a mixed bag. One of our blog categories is “Fake Phony News”, which reveals a lot. Some of our blogging is serious, some silly. But one thing is for sure, we don’t blog as much as we should.

What books are on your shelf at home?

Also an incredible variety on my shelves, which include the same as Karen’s and Rowling, P. Anthony, Heinlein, and A. Christie.

Any awards/achievement you want to share?

Sigh, no.

Who’s your favourite author?

I find that question nearly impossible to answer. I, like Karen, enjoy Tolkien. I have read the Hobbit and the Lord of the Ring trilogy probably seven times since being introduced to the series thirty years ago. But, I have also read the Xanth series by Piers Anthony at least four times, The Harry Potter series three times in addition to listening to them on my iPod once, and so many others. I can’t chose one author but I hear Wodke Hawkinson is going places.

What are you good at as an individual?

I try to listen if anyone needs an ear.

What form of entertainment do you enjoy most and why?

Like Karen, I enjoy reading; not only does it take you places you have never been, it takes you places impossible to go, places that never existed and never will.

What are your other interests?

I enjoy playing games, paint-by-numbers, and bass fishing.

Your favourite pet?

Cat. Oh, and lizards and possibly a sugar glider.

What’s your choice meal/favourite restaurant?

Favorite meal is meatloaf, baked potato, and green beans with a close runner up of tacos.

What’s your music choice?

Old time rock and roll and some country. I enjoy classical upon occasion and a little blues. Beatles, Kid Rock, Garth Brooks, Procol Harum, Dixie Chicks, and the list goes on.

Name your favourite city in the world:

Las Vegas rocks but I can’t really answer this question until I’ve been to them all.

Name your favourite world leader and why:

I am not into politics at all so can’t answer this question but I suspect it will be someone in the future.

If you had one wish, what would it be?

For my husband, kids, and grandkids to live a long healthy life.

If you can change one thing, what would it be?

The low dollar amount in my bank account. The number needs about six more zeros behind the total.

What would you say you’re bad at?

Eating properly, losing weight, playing instruments, acrobats, and art.

You’re squeamish to what?

Definitely centipedes, scorpions, and little black furry spiders.

What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve done?

There was something I did recently that was hilariously embarrassing. But I can’t remember what it was.

Anything else your readers don’t know about you?

Not that I can divulge.

What’s your favourite quote?

“Live and let live”.

Why should a reader buy your book?

Because the stories are funny, sad, strange, and unusual.

What is your last word?

THE often thought to be the first word, now known to be the last word, but quite possibly the only word.

Dark Secrets…Waiting to Explode

Flirty & Feisty Romance…wild & windy

A passive girl turned into a sexy tigress?

It was all a secret and tender crush…that deepened into a severe ache and longing…which eventually evolved into a catastrophic incident. Never again would she trudge that route.
Chloe believed she’d been setup…made a ridicule of and abandoned. To preserve family ties, she’d kept the humiliating episode and her subsequent actions from everyone... That was years ago.
Now, hot and sweltering freelance fashion journalist, Chloe Anderson planned on living her jet-set life to the full. Having exhausted her emotion on a fourteen-year wait for Warren, she plunged herself into globe-trotting across the continent.

His unstable choice

His mother is an adulteress! After the disappointing near break-up of Warren’s parents’ marriage that he duly blamed on her high mobility journalist job, Warren swore not to give his heart so easily to any woman. As a successful, high profile, New York lawyer, his criteria for a wife is simple. An available woman with a stable career, perhaps a teacher will meet his needs.

When he insisted on co-habiting with Chloe, she was delighted at being handed her payback opportunity. Is there a way out of the swamp she’d sunk into?

A wild & windy expressive saga, laced with mind-boggling intrigues.

Excerpt

She struggled to pick out the richly dark, curly hair and sea weed pair of eyes belonging to the taller-than-life, tanned man that invited her from the sea of faces mingling around the decadent and dazzling foyer. As she circled around the crowd, she felt a strong hand at the small of her back.

Chloe froze in mid stride, her spine stiffening to breaking point.

The soft bellow from the evening’s live music was totally lost on her. In a matter of a few seconds, her throat emerged parched dry. Her eardrum was receiving pounding drumbeats. If he didn’t take his hand off her right now, she would melt into his stunning, lean frame.

‘You’re early Chloe, just the way a real lady would behave. I’m really ecstatic you decided to come,’ he whispered into her left ear buried within her mass of sparkling, red hair.

And her heart thumped faster! She bit her lower lip to keep from giggling.

His warm breath fanning her neck made the hairs on her neckline stand upright and uptight!

Afraid that he would hear her fast pumping heartbeat, she instantly jerked away from him.

Her reaction thrilled him. A curly grin slashed across his sexy lips tearing his mouth open into a dandy smile. The indentation at the top of his upper lip was to die for.

Warren looked hot!

She suddenly wanted his sure hands to split her gown in two. To discover her secret place, and to possess her until she’s blown away by what she could only imagine would be a life transforming orgasm.

Blind me! What pure hearted woman thinks like that?

WHAT IF YOUR SPOUSE WON'T DO HOUSE CHORES?

Every marriage has its own peculiar feature. Yours is unique not like anyone else’s.

Good hygiene starts from home, but it doesn’t end there. When you were young and lived at home (like I did) you got your fair share of house chores: cleaning, dusting, cooking and washing. On the other hand, if you had parents who were overly fussy, who believed you were too young to pull your weight by contributing to cleaning the house, then, you would at least have seen your parents; siblings or helpers do the house work. So you know for sure that house chores are as real as eating hot meals!

House chores are not tasks for ALIENS!

If you’ve ever lived on your own, that is after you moved out of your parent’s home, you would have had to clean up after yourself one way or another. If you’ve ever shared a flat, you would have had to put in effort to ensure the communal spaces were cleaned. If you didn’t do your bit, you were disliked and labelled lazy!

Now that you’re married, you’ve no excuse, real or imaginary not to clean and tidy your home to make it a presentable and a pleasant place for you and your family. House chores aren’t gender specific. Both of you must clean and organize your home. Yes, including African men if you live abroad! (If you live in Africa, then, you’ll have help and needn’t break your head over house chores).

If your spouse works and you don’t, then, the bulk of the house chores naturally falls on you (stay at home mum or dad!). Yes, sometimes the whole cleaning and cooking gets on top of you and you resent having to clean the home and care for the kids as well.

My advice:

If your kids are above 3 years old, co-opt them to help out as much as they can. At that age, they are enthusiastic and willing to help. And they begin to learn the culture of being assigned responsibility.

Reward them by praising them and giving them treats. They learn that responsibility comes with reward. When you disdain the help you can get from your kids as toddlers, when they become teenagers, they disdain your attempt to coerce them into doing their fair share of work. And, the training opportunity is lost. You can kiss goodbye to them doing their bit when they get married. And the cycle continues...

If you’re the stay at home spouse, instead of resenting your partner for not helping out at home, you can do the following:

Help them relax and get a good rest when they get back from work.

Tell your spouse in loving tones how exhausted you are today from all the house chores. Discuss how both of you can make things easier. You can say, ‘I know if you were at home, it would have been so much easier because you would have helped out with...’

Plan your house chores so that you don’t too much each day and hate your life afterwards.

Leave certain chores: lifting, tough stains, high level cleaning etc. for your spouse when they’re off work. You can also leave out chores you can do together and have fun at the same time.

If you’re the working spouse:

You’ve got to be very sensitive and considerate in the way you speak and act. If your spouse gets any hint that you treat them less than they deserve because they are currently unemployed or are a sit at home spouse, you’re courting trouble.

You’ve got to realize that taking care of your home and making it a wonderfully warm place for friends and family is a grinding task that is NEVER rewarded. But you can change that. How? Take note and compliment every minute effort, DAILY. You can say, ‘Wow! You’ve added fresh flowers there...’ or ‘You’ve washed the curtains, that’s great’ or ‘thank you for taking care of our home.’ And seal such glowing comments with a kiss. Flattering your spouse is a winner anytime. Each time my husband gives me a glowing compliment; I feel light warmth flowing from my face (smile) to my stomach. It gladdens my heart. And it pushes me to do more, even when he says, ‘You’ve got to take it easy’.

Give your stay at home spouse a break by helping out as frequently as you can (It’s your home too!) and by taking your spouse out to have a great time.

Some days, give your spouse a treat by ordering takeaway. Tell him/her you want them to relax and do nothing because you appreciate all their hard work (house cleaning, shopping, school run, food cooking and kids caring effort etc.).

My last word: Remember, no two relationships are alike. Comparing your relationship with your sister, brother, friend or neighbour’s is a waste of time. As YOU make your bed, so you LIE on it.

Go and tend your home TOGETHER, and live happily ever after by God’ grace.
